At the summer time, we have a lot of clients asking if we can run parties outside. The reason is a lot of parents want to take advantage of the summer months and hold the party outside. It also means that you don’t need to hire a hall because you can hold the party in your back garden. There are a lot of great reasons to hold a party outside, ranging from more space, basking in the nice weather, more space for children to play and many more!
A lot of entertainers don’t perform outside because it makes performing quite difficult. Not us! We perform regularly outside at festivals and birthday parties without any issues. However, if you are wanting to hold your child’s party outside, there are certain things you may want to consider if you want the party to be a success. Below, we have outlined the most important things to consider to make sure your child’s outside party is a success.
10 Tips To Ensure Your Child's Outside Party Is A Success!
Check If Your Entertainer Is Used To Performing Outside!
This is not a problem with Non Stop Kids Entertainment, but with other entertainers, it’s always worth checking. Some entertainers will refuse to perform outside while others will have to adapt their show to fit in with the area. Believe it or not, we have even heard of entertainers charging more when a party is outside! If you're hiring an entertainer, we implore you to do your research first before hiring, always better to be safe then sorry.
Check If The Equipment Your Entertainer Is Using Is Designed To Be Used Outside!
At Non Stop Kids Entertainment, all our PA Equipment can run off an internal battery, perfect for indoor or outdoor use. This relates to our first point that It’s worth checking this with your entertainer, especially if there is no access to power where you are planning on having the party.
Don't Bother With Disco Lights!
Disco lights are basically useless outside in the middle of the day and it is just not worth putting them up. Instead, make sure your entertainer has a PA System that will work (see point number 2).
Inform Parents That The Party Will Be Outside
Make sure the parents of the invited children are informed in advance that the party will be outside. This way, the parents will be able to pack sun screen and other things they might need for their children before the party begins. If they aren’t aware the party is outside, they might not bring these things and in the summer, that can't end with good results.
Consider Having A Gazebo
In the summer time, temperatures can sometimes reach up to 30°C. It can get very hot and having a Gazebo means that the children are protected. It also means that in the unlikely scenario it rains slightly, the show can go on without having the move everything indoors. Gazebos are quite cheap to buy from stores like Home Bargains and even online in places such as Amazon.
Consider Having Something On The Ground For The Kids To Set On!
Chairs aren’t a good idea as they will take up too much room, which is problematic when we play party games and imagine the hassle with having to keep picking them up constantly. As an in alternative, we would suggest putting blankets on the floor so the kids can sit down during the magic show and the party food. Later into the event, these blankets can be moved for the party games.
Have A Contingency Plan For The Day In Case of Rain!
Regardless of how perfect a plan may be, always have a back up in place. Because we are using expensive electrical equipment, this would need to be moved inside if it started raining. We perform in houses and front rooms a great deal, so if you are holding the party in your back garden, this isn’t an issue for us at all. However, whatever the plan, it is important to make sure you have a back up plan. After all, we live in England and the weather is very unpredictable! A back up plan will be the difference between a successful party and a disastrous one!
Make Sure You Position The Kids Facing In The Right Direction
If the children sit down to watch the show and the sun is in their eyes, this can be an absolute nightmare. Unless you want all of your kids looking like the Men in Black, the important thing is to make sure the position the kids facing in the right direction and they can see what we are doing. Test the area first for sun glare and if you have trouble seeing, then they will too.
Have Plenty Of Drinks Ready!
We all know how thirsty everyone gets during the summer and if you have children running around outside in the sun, they will need to be constantly hydrated. As our games are very high energy with lots of dancing around, ensure there is always water and other beverages are at the ready!
Try To Have Some Shade For The Children!
Earlier, we talked about having gazebos at the ready, however, if these aren’t available try to position the kids so there is some shade. During the magic show, they will be sitting down for about 45 mins and that’s a long time in direct sunshine.
